Wounds that won’t heal need the attention of the skilled Advanced Wound Care experts at Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) . This highly specialized team – led by Orthopedic Surgeon Francisco Jaume, DO – is comprised of healthcare professionals who specialize in the many aspects of wound care, including:
- Nurse Practitioners
- Hyperbaric Technicians
- Registered Nurses
Our Advanced Wound Care team understands that every person with a non-healing wound needs an individualized plan. When combined with a holistic approach to care, these plans lead to long-term healing. At YRMC, we call this putting our Total Healing Environment into motion. For Advanced Wound Care patients, it means 80 percent of complicated wounds are healed within four weeks.
It’s convenient to work with YRMC’s Advanced Wound Care team. We offer prior authorization support and strive to schedule patients within 48 to 72 hours of their initial contact or faster, if needed.
Here’s a look at some of our customized Advanced Wound Care services:
Applying short-stretch bandages and fitting patients with prescription compression stockings help improve circulation and heal wounds to the legs. People with poor circulation in their extremities also may be referred to YRMC’s James Family Heart Center for vascular studies to address their underlying circulatory problems.
Non-healing wounds from diabetes, bone infections, skin ulcers and other conditions or injuries may benefit from debridement. The process of removing necrotic – non-living – tissue reduces bacteria at the wound site. Though the wound may not be infected, bacteria can cause inflammation and strain your body’s ability to fight infection. YRMC’s Advanced Wound Care team keeps apprised of advances in debridement tools and techniques so patients experience faster healing.
Our Advanced Wound Care experts team up with other YRMC healthcare professionals – dietitians and exercise therapists – to help patients adopt healthier habits that complement their healing therapy.
The Advanced Wound Care Department at YRMC is home to Western Yavapai County’s only Hyperbaric Medicine program. Our two state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chambers help wounds heal by increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood. The air pressure inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber is about two and a half times greater than normal atmospheric pressure. The patient breathes this pure oxygen, which then circulates to the body’s organs and tissues for faster and more efficient healing. Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy team – physicians, nurses and technicians – are Certified in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
People with uncontrolled diabetes may develop ulcers on their feet. Our Advanced Wound Care team promotes healing with specialty shoes, boots, insoles and socks that reduce pressure on the feet.
Our patients benefit from the knowledge, skill and experience of YRMC’s Advanced Wound Care Department Director, Dr. Francisco Jaume. As an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Jaume is attuned to when surgical debridement is the best course of action. Surgical intervention can stop the spread of osteomyelitis, an infection caused by an open wound over a bone. People with peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, a compound (open) fracture and other conditions are more likely to develop osteomyelitis.
