Partners for Healthy Students

Ask parents, teachers and healthcare providers and they’ll tell you that healthy children are better prepared to learn at school. In western Yavapai County, Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) supports health and learning with Partners for Healthy Students (PHS) school-based pediatric clinics.

Since 1999, PHS has provided primary, preventive, vision and other healthcare services to students and their siblings in the Chino Valley, Humboldt and Prescott Unified School Districts, as well as charter schools. In 2014—thanks to its new Mobile Health Clinic—PHS expanded its reach to include students and their siblings from schools in Kirkland, Hillside, Mayer, Paulden, Yarnell and Wilhoit.

Coordinating with school nurses or health aides, PHS provides free healthcare services to children and their siblings from qualifying families. Visits are by appointment and a parent must be with the child during the appointment.

The PHS clinical team includes two certified pediatric nurse practitioners, two program coordinators, and a pediatrician who serves as the consulting medical director. The PHS team:
  • Conducts well-child and adolescent exams
  • Diagnoses and treat acute and chronic illnesses
  • Prescribes and monitor medications
  • Conducts sports physicals
  • Refers children to medical specialists
