BEDSIDE MUSIC PROGRAM

YRMC’s Bedside Music program offers the soothing sounds of acoustic music to all hospitalized patients who request the music, or have it requested on their behalf. Hospital volunteers provide the service free of charge, and the music is appropriate for every kind of patient in all areas of the hospital.

Live music, played softly at the bedside, is a calming experience that often absorbs patients and promotes peaceful and relaxing feelings. Bedside Music is not a concert, but a service to patients. A session may last as long as an hour. No verbal response or applause is expected.

The healing power of music has been noted throughout history. Soothing music is known to have a healthful effect on respiration, pulse rate, temperature and pain responses.
