As a community service, and to give our precious babies the best possible start in life, YRMC offers a number of different classes. Times and dates of classes are published monthly in local newspapers and also on YRMC’s website, www.yrmc.org. All services are designed to meet the special needs of new moms and their partners. Included are:
A six-week series of classes designed for first-time moms and their partners to provide helpful information in preparation for the arrival of a new baby. Participants are encouraged to start the series no later than the 27th week of pregnancy and be sure to attend all six two-hour classes. Topics include relaxation and pain-coping techniques, what to expect at the hospital and basic baby care. A moderate fee is charged for all six classes.
A two-session refresher course for expectant couples who have previously given birth. Classes are held six times a year and focus on practicing the skills that can help during labor. A small fee is charged for both classes.
A three-hour breastfeeding class held on the second Saturday of every month. A YRMC lactation consultant teaches new moms how to have a successful and rewarding breastfeeding experience. There is no charge.
