THE HISTORY OF YAVAPAI REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

Since being incorporated in April 1942, Prescott’s hometown hospital has seen a lot of change. What started in the old Jefferson School building on Marina Street is today located in a multi-story, state-of-the-art facility on Willow Creek Road. Prescott Community Hospital is now recognized nationally by a new name: Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Hospital services have grown to match the healthcare needs of our communities. And even greater changes are planned for the future.

What has not changed—and what will never change—is the comfort we offer and the compassion we feel. These will forever remain.

The cornerstone of the 21st century Yavapai Regional Medical Center is a Healing Team led by a community-based board of trustees, a trusted group of experienced administrators and the scores of concerned physicians in multiple specialties who form the YRMC Medical Staff. Complementing this outstanding leadership are the skills, training and competence of hundreds of professional nurses, therapists, technicians, support personnel and volunteers.

The technology side of YRMC is no less impressive. Our 127-bed, full-service hospital in Prescott—YRMC West—is home to an acclaimed cardiac cath lab and angiography service, state-of-the-art imaging services and a full spectrum of healthcare options that range from preventive medicine to family-centered obstetrics. A 24-hour emergency department with Fast Track capabilities, inpatient and outpatient surgical services and a highly respected Partners for Healthy Students program all contribute to YRMC’s important healthcare presence.

In Prescott Valley, the YRMC Del E. Webb Outpatient Center opened in 1997 to provide the area’s growing population with imaging services, preventive medicine and physical rehabilitation. YRMC’s hospice and home health services are also located here, along with office space for private physicians. In 2002, YRMC, in a joint venture with community partners, opened the YRMC Health Services Building adjacent to the outpatient center. This was a forerunner of things to come.

With an eye on meeting future healthcare needs, Yavapai Regional Medical Center announced in the late 1990s that it would be building an entirely new hospital—YRMC East—in Prescott Valley. Because of the complexity of the project, planning alone would take several years, but by 2002 it had been determined that the 50-bed facility would initially offer an emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, cardiopulmonary and neurology services, radiology and various support services, with other services to be added as required.

At Yavapai Regional Medical Center, healing is more than a job, more than a business. It’s our calling ... and we’re proud of it.
