Friends,
Say the word “family” and most people will naturally think of their parents and siblings, and perhaps their grandparents, their cousins, aunts and uncles, and so on. Thinking of “family” may also bring to mind a range of positive actions and emotions—trust, support, respect, love, faith, cooperation, sharing, caring, unity, etc. I could continue the list indefinitely, but I’m sure you get the point.
Family, in the traditional sense, is a group of people related to one another who, by and large, also care for and believe in each other.
At Yavapai Regional Medical Center, the concept of family is a bit broader, as our family encompasses thousands of people with shared beliefs—who don’t happen to be related by birth. Other than that, we’re a family in practically every meaning of the word.
Who are the members of this YRMC family? Well, you could start with our outstanding Medical Staff, which is more than 180 members strong and represents a full range of medical specialties. Then, there are our dedicated trustees and administrators, the committed individuals on our foundation board, our many fine nurses and technicians, and our hundreds of exemplary employees and volunteers. At the end of 2006, our total workforce was almost 1,800 strong … supported by more than 850 volunteers.
You also have to count our many thoughtful supporters—thousands in all—who over the years have without fail supported YRMC as we worked to improve our facilities, services and programs. Three of the most recent projects to benefit from this support were YRMC East, our new campus in Prescott Valley that opened in May 2006; the North Expansion Project, completed several months earlier to expand YRMC West in Prescott; and the just-completed Capital Campaign, which was our most successful ever.
There is absolutely no way that we would be listed among America’s 100 Top Hospitals without the generosity of the “donor branch” of the YRMC family tree. Being selected one of the 100 Top Hospitals is an honor, by the way, that we received in 2006. We are one of only two hospitals in Arizona to make this prestigious list.
Last, though certainly not least, we consider the community as a whole and all of its residents an integral part of our growing family. Why? Because each of you—along with your friends, family and neighbors— provide us with an opportunity to serve, and “service” is the foundation on which any quality healthcare organization must be built.
Much of the rest of this 2006 Annual Report, in fact, covers the many different ways we serve local residents and the communities in which they reside. And it is most assuredly our honor to do so. For now, though, I want to emphasize that providing this service is definitely a family affair. We couldn’t do it without our doctors and nurses, and it would be impossible without YRMC’s donors and benefactors. Our employees and volunteers definitely play a key role, as do YRMC’s trustees and administrators.
I like to say that YRMC is two great hospitals…with one caring spirit. It could also be said that YRMC is two great hospitals…that are made possible by one very large, and very caring, family. As we celebrate our family connections in this Annual Report, please know that you have my sincere thanks for making the YRMC family your own.
